On Bromberg Plays Hendrix, bassist Brian Bromberg doesn't utilize the electric guitar at all, but it's hard to tell. A tribute to one of the world's most inventive guitarists could only be honored by doing something completely different from what is expected. Bromberg manages this on both acoustic and electric piccolo bass. Whether covering sonic blasts like "Fire" and "Purple Haze" or the melancholia of "The Wind Cries Mary," Bromberg and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta make this a worthwhile endeavor that stands up to repeated listening.

1. Fire (4:42)
2. Manic Depression (4:27)
3. The Wind Cries Mary (4:14)
4. Voodoo Chile (7:05)
5. Freedom (4:47)
6. All Along THe Watchtower (4:41)
7. Foxey Lady (4:48)
8. Hey Joe (6:28)
9. Crosstown> Traffic (3:43)
10. Spanish Castle Magic (5:39)
11. Purple Haze (6:43)

Brian Bromberg - 4 string bass, tenor bass, piccolo bass, 5 string, bass,
fretless bass, upright bass, vocals. Hé ouais, pas de guitares, mais écoutez.... :o

Vinnie Colaiuta – drums

The Story
"Orange And Blue" is Al DiMeola's very Metheny-like 1994 album, co-produced with Hernan Romero, who adds his wordless voice, bells and charango to many tunes. DiMeola uses a variety of guitars on the record, including his Gibson Di Meola model jazz electric guitar (a large hollow body similar to the L-5 and perfect for the Metheny tone), Conde Hermanos classical guitar, Ovation acoustic guitar, Guild acoustic guitar, as well as the Roland GRI synthesizer. Principle musical contributors include Mario Parmisano (keyboards, grand piano, Marc Johnson (acoustic bass) and noted drummers Steve Gadd, Manu Katche and Peter Erskine are also featured. Highlights include the up tempo "Casmir" and "Summer Country Song", as well as the remarkable "Chilean Pipe Song".
